GEROSTATS REFERENCING STARTER PACK
===================================

Purpose
-------
Use four real sources to practise the complete path from a clean library record
to an in-text citation and reference list. The pack contains metadata, tags and
teaching notes. It does not contain copyrighted PDFs.

Files
-----
gerostats-example-library-endnote.enw
  EndNote-tagged import file.

gerostats-example-library-zotero.bib
  BibTeX import file for Zotero.

gerostats-annotated-referencing-example.docx
Worked author-date example with visible annotations and practice steps.

EndNote import
--------------
1. Make a new practice library.
2. Choose File > Import > File.
3. Select gerostats-example-library-endnote.enw.
4. Choose EndNote Import as the import option and Unicode (UTF-8) as text translation.
5. Import, then verify every record against its DOI page.
6. The National Academies record uses a trailing comma so EndNote treats the
organisation as one corporate author. Confirm that it imported correctly.

Zotero import
-------------
1. Make or select a new practice collection.
2. Choose File > Import and select A file.
3. Select gerostats-example-library-zotero.bib.
4. Import, then verify every record against its DOI page.
5. Confirm that National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is
   shown as one corporate author.

Practice safely
---------------
The Word document contains visible demonstration citations, not live EndNote or
Zotero fields. Work in a copy. Replace the demonstration citations with live
citations from your chosen manager, select your required style, refresh, and
audit the output. Do not mix EndNote and Zotero fields in the same live document.

Source check
------------
Metadata and teaching claims were checked against PubMed, PubMed Central,
Crossref and the National Academies Press on 18 August 2026. Your degree handbook
and current official institutional guidance remain the source of truth for style.
